As far as goals go, I’m definitely one of those people who will always be setting them, in some way or another. Whether that be daily goals, weekly goals or yearly goals. I just find that for me personally.. they work.
There is nothing I love more than getting out my notebook and writing down my goals. I’ve done this for as long as I can remember, and probably always will. When I write out the goals I want to achieve, I like to read them daily. This gives me all the motivation I may need. I also find that the more goals I write down, the better I feel about myself.. once I’ve completed them.
I understand they aren’t for everyone, but if you’re like me and that little bit of a push helps you achieve your goals, then I suggest trying it.
2020, was.. well, what shall we say? Strange, tough, uncertain.. and well, the list goes on. So actually being able to achieve the goals we all made, was made a little harder. And I’m not sure about anywhere else in the world, but not much has changed now we’re in 2021.. but there is light at the end of the tunnel, so looking forward to that is a positive.
In all honesty, I wasn’t sure I was going to write down all my goals for this year, just purely because I wasn’t really sure how it was all going to pan out. But then I realised, I can still achieve anything I want this year, it might just need me to take an alternative route.. which is fine.
So I got out my notebook (where I write my goals) and wrote down everything I wanted to do and achieve this year. And every time I look back over them, I feel a sense of relief and also positivity that I can and will reach them. I’ve had nothing but time recently to really reflect on my life, where I want to be, who I want to be and what I want to do. So that made writing down my goals, that bit easier.
So if you’re feeling a little lost or maybe unmotivated right now.. pick up a pen and a notebook, and write down everything you want to achieve, it doesn’t matter how big or small your goals are.. if they mean something to you, then they are worth writing down. Something else I like to do is take it one step further and go into more detail about my goals. I write down what I need to do in order to achieve it, research I need to do (if it needs it).. anything I can write down that is going to help me get to my desired goals.
One reason I’m setting myself goals this year is to give myself a purpose. By this I mean, there’s not much we can do in the world right now (we’re currently in our third national lockdown) so having my mind set on what I want to achieve can only be positive. It gives me a sense of direction and a belief that even during these extremely tough times, I can achieve anything I want.
Another reason is I am at an age where my career, personal growth and relationships are very much at the fore front of my mind. These are the things most important to me, so making goals for all these things is extremely valuable.
But the biggest reason I am setting myself goals this year is because there is no better feeling than looking back this time next year and seeing how far I’ve come. I love to reflect on my past year, see what I have achieved, see what I could have done better.. all those things that make me motivated as a person!
