How to decorate for a birthday during lockdown

Here we are, in yet another lockdown.. I’m in Yorkshire, England and currently we are in a local lockdown. At the moment, England is operating on a ‘3 tier’ lockdown guideline, 3 being the highest (which is where Yorkshire is at right now). Meaning we cannot socialise with anyone outside of our household indoors or outdoors. Shops and restaurants are still open but should be avoided if possible.

So obviously this meant another member of my family was going to be having a lockdown birthday.. my mum.

I had one, my sister had one, even my dog had one.. so it seemed fitting that my mum should also spend her birthday in a lockdown. I’m one of those people that love to go a little crazy when it comes to spoiling my loved ones. And because of current circumstances, I thought I would go the extra mile.

I love decorating the house, buying lots of gifts and making sure whoevers birthday it is, that they are having the best day possible. It’s just one of those things that brings me so much joy.

Balloons are a good idea, always. Weddings, birthdays, baby showers, Christmas.. whenever it is, just get some balloons and you’re onto a winner. So for my mums birthday this year I decided on a Balloon Arch. I’ve seen these all over social media but never had the occasion to try one. I ordered mine (or should I say my mums) from eBay, I believe it was around £11, which for what it is, is really good value for money.

They are simple to find, just type in ‘Balloon Arch’ and you’ll have hundreds of options to choose from. This was the difficult part for me, picking which one I wanted. Anyway, I did this alone so it took around 3 hours.. which seems like a long time, but if you’re anything like me and love an excuse to spoil someone then 3 hours is nothing. I do recommend getting yourself a balloon pump though, I wouldn’t like to think how long it would take if you didn’t.

Blow up all the balloons, attach them to the arch, position it how you want it and job done. You can shape these however you like, I placed mine around the back of the settee, just purely because in order to get it into an arch shape, I would need someone to assist me. And I did it alone, so it wasn’t possible.. but I’m pretty happy with it if I say so myself.

For the rest of the day we did some baking (of course), ate lots of yummy food and watched films, all in all a pretty good lockdown birthday if you ask me! But the most important part is, my mum had the best day!
