When it comes to morning routines, there are so many varieties. Every single person does something completely different to the other. As individuals we all know (or are finding out at least) what works best for us. Life continues to change which in turn allows us to change our routines..
Over the past few months I’ve really focused on bettering myself and bettering all aspects of my life. I think I just got to a stage where I realised I had to change parts of my life in order to get the most out of it. This included my morning routine.. along with others, but one of the main things I wanted to change was how I spent my morning.
I wanted to change it, pretty drastically if I do say so myself, just purely because my old one wasn’t working for me any longer. I needed change and I needed to use my time a lot more wisely. So if you’re feeling a little stuck and you’re not quite sure where to start, I recommend starting with your mornings..
I listened to a podcast called Law of attraction changed my life and she mentioned a book called The Miracle Morning. I haven’t read the book and I’m not sure I will but this was what inspired me to change it. In the book it mentions a routine called the SAVERS; Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading and Scribing. So just recently I’ve been incorporating this into my morning routine.. and it seems to be going well so far.
So I thought I would give you a bit of a run down on what my morning routine consists of;
First things first, I wake up a lot earlier than I need to. The reason for this is simple.. if I didn’t, I would never get everything done. I mentioned in a recent post that I’m an early bird, so getting up earlier than I need to, doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I need an hour or so before I start my day to do all the things below. I understand it isn’t for everyone, but it’s what works for me. I always wanted to wake up feeling inspired, this does just that.
Gratitude’s – I’ve got a small notebook that I keep at the side of my bed. Every single morning I wake up and the first thing I do is write down 3 gratitude’s. This helps me focus on what I already have, rather than living in lack and thinking of what I don’t have.
Whiteboard – I’ve got a small whiteboard that I used to use for writing down my exercises for the day on. But these days I’ve found a different use for it. I read chapters from two books every morning.. Raise your vibrations by Kyle Gray and Manifest Now by Idil Ahmed. In the book, raise your vibrations I pick out one essential practice (usually go in order through the book) and in the book Manifest Now I pick out one powerful thought or affirmation. When I’ve done this, I write them both down on my whiteboard and put it in a place where I will see it throughout the day. So whenever I go into my room I can read it over and over again. So no matter how my day is going I know that I can read these over to either raise my vibration or remind myself how much of a queen I am and how I am totally smashing life.
Meditate – I’m sure you will have noticed in my recent posts that I am a very big believer in meditation. So it seems only right that I put this into my morning routine. I do this to start my day because meditating on a clear mind seems to work the best for me. 5 or 10 minutes will do the trick.
Affirmations – I’ve wrote down a few key affirmations that I feel work for me. I do try and read them as many times a day as I can but more often than not it will be once in a morning and once at night.
Visualise – I visualise for around 20 minutes, each morning is different but that seems to be roughly the amount of time I can hold a good visualisation for. I do it to music, I just find it easier when I cannot hear any outside noise and can focus on the music instead.
Inspirational video – I’m all for an inspirational video, but sometimes I find them a little too much and I am very specific when it comes to them. I found a video by Dr. Joe Dispenza that seems to resonate with me and whenever I need a little boost to get going on a morning, I pop this on and feel like I can take on the day. I think it’s important to find videos that work for you, we’re all very different when it comes to this. What works for one, may not work for another.
Journal – This is a new one for me (inspired by the miracle morning). I’ve never really been much of a journal type of person, believe it or not, despite how much I love writing. I just could never find the words to write down first thing on a morning. But since I committed to trying the miracle mornings, I figured I would give it a go. And now I’m wondering why I didn’t do it before! There’s no right or wrong when it comes to journal-ling, just write down your thoughts and feelings. A few sentences will do.
Read – This one goes without saying, give me a spare 10 mins and I’ll be reading. I didn’t have to try too hard to fit this into my routine..
Exercise – I’ll then get myself ready, have a coffee, some water and breakfast and I’m off on a walk. If I’m not going for a walk, I’ll do some home workouts. Either way I try to do at least 30 minutes exercise per day.
I realise this all seems like a lot to do first thing in the morning, but it only takes me just over an hour plus 30 minutes or so for exercise. Which I think is very little time considering how much of a positive impact it has on my mental and physical well being. I hope this has given you some ideas or tips to use if you’re wanting to switch up your routine. You don’t have to use them all (or any) but a couple will definitely put you onto bettering your mornings.
