A few essential pieces we all need in our wardrobes

I’ve always loved fashion, it’s just one of those things that I never seem to get bored of. Shopping online, in stores, trying on new pieces, putting outfits together.. all of it! Fashion has changed so much over the years, but there are some pieces that never seem to go out of fashion.

I like basics, I love anything I can use multiple times and switch up however I want. There’s nothing better than buying something I know will look good with pretty much anything. At the end of the day, if we’re paying good money for something, we need to know we can get our money’s worth out of it. When choosing basics, go for good quality, even though they can sometimes seem a little pricey, in the long run they will save you money.. (you won’t have to keep re purchasing).

I guess you could say my style is some what basic, with the odd print thrown in there for good measure. I like simplicity.. just because I feel it suits me better. But I do like to switch it up every now and then, so for the most part my wardrobe has a mixture of styles and patterns..

Black blazer

I’m a blazer type of girl, there’s just something about them that makes an outfit look powerful. Pair it with some high waisted trousers, a racer back bodysuit and some over sized sun glasses and you’ve got yourself a look.. Blazers are so easily styled, you can keep them casual and smart or you can switch it up and turn up to drinks with your boo looking all cute and sophisticated.. that decision is up to you. Me though, you’ll find me in a blazer.. whenever I can.

Black & white bodysuits

I feel like black and white are the safest options when it comes to styling outfits.. along with grey and nude too. But it doesn’t hurt to throw in some colour every now and then, switch it up a little. So if more colour is your thing, get yourself some plain coloured bodysuits, they go with everything. A pair of jeans, a bodysuit of your choice, nike air force ones and you’re ready to go. I wasn’t always a fan of bodysuits and if I’m honest, if they have a top version I’ll probably opt for that. But bodysuits pull an outfit together. They can be worn with near enough everything, so you’ll definitely get your money’s worth. I like to wear them on nights out, this way I know my outfit will stay in place all night long.

Cycling shorts

Honestly, what did we ever do without cycling shorts? I have so many pairs, all in different colours, some ribbed material, some slinky material.. the options are endless. Not to mention how in expensive they are! I like to wear my cycling shorts with an oversized t-shirt.. purely for comfort, but also because they look effortlessly stylish. One of those outfits where your comfort is guaranteed but you also look like you spent some time picking out your outfit. Cycling shorts are my ‘doing errands’ attire.. nobody’s got time to be all dressed up to go to the supermarket.

Plain white Tee

I’m pretty sure everyone will own at least one of these, unless you’re like me and can never just have one of anything. I love anything that is bright white (my makeup isn’t too keen though). I always make sure I’m careful when putting on a white t shirt, especially if I’ve just done my makeup.. because let me tell you, that’s a recipe for disaster. You can dress up and also dress down a plain white tee, they’re very much a basic that will never ever go out of fashion, you can wear for any occasion but still look cute and trendy. I’m usually a pair of jeans and a white tee type of girl (if I’m not in cycling shorts or going out glam).

Oversized shirt

Any style oversized shirt will do the trick. It could be a checked shirt that would look great with your mom jeans and a white tee. Or it could be a crisp white shirt that you accessories with a waist belt and some heels.. either way, a statement piece for any wardrobe. I love the ones from missguided, they have a little extra shape, so they extenuate your natural curves.. or a corset style shirt works just as good. You don’t have to spend a fortune on these, lots of online stores have them for extremely good prices.

Mom jeans

Gone are the days when skinny jeans were all the rage.. mom jeans it is. Good job I got myself a pair! I still wear my skinny jeans (they’re ridiculously comfy) but mom jeans have taken the fashion world by storm and I am absolutely here for it. I’m usually a petite in clothes, especially when it comes to jeans but sometimes I have to buy them in the regular size (if they don’t have the same style in petite) and get them adjusted. So it’s always important I find a pair I know will last a long time and will stay on trend. I love a pair of mom jeans, they too are something you can style pretty much however you may like. Want to be comfy when you’re out for cocktails with the girls? throw on a pair of mom jeans.. need to nip to the shops but don’t want to wear joggers? throw on some mom jeans.

Basic knit cardigan

I mean, I know we’re technically still in summer (not that it seems like that here) but a knit cardigan always comes in handy.. especially if you live in the UK. I like simple style cardigans.. probably in a nude, navy or black. Comfort is always key when it comes to me, so knit cardigans are a must have in my wardrobe. Like I mentioned before, get yourself quality over quantity, especially when it comes to knits. Over time they will begin to look a little worn out, so the better the quality, the longer they will last.

Black faux leather trousers

I struggled for the longest time to find some faux leather trousers that fitted me just how I wanted them to. I mentioned before about being a petite, so finding trousers that fit me perfectly isn’t all that easy. But I was adamant I was going to find a pair of faux leather trousers. These too are a piece that can make any look, they’re sleek and effortless.. my kind of clothes. I like to style mine quite dressy, when I’m going out for dinner somewhere nice. But they can definitely be styled down, stick on a plain tee and some comfy trainers, an oversized coat and some accessories and you’ve made them into a whole other look.
