Why having writer’s block is perfectly normal

I’ve been blogging for around a year and a half now.. and I’m still here. YAY me, I must be doing something right..

For the most part I’ve managed to create a relatively steady stream of posts, with only a few missed days. My first year was my ‘Learning year’, that was me getting to grips with my content and how to work my blog. This year, using everything I had learnt the previous year I decided on a blog post plan, this meant uploading 3 times a week; Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Since the beginning of the year, I have stuck to this routine.. only missing one day! This day was Tuesday last week.

I’m usually a pretty organised person, especially when it comes to my blog. I have everything ready.. always. I know what I’m uploading each day, I have my notebook full of ideas and on each page there is a more in depth description of each potential post.

But on this one particular day, I had the worst case of writer’s block. Despite having near enough everything planned out for me, I just could not get my brain to put together a post. I guess you could say I was having ‘One of those days’. I had all the intention of sitting down and writing a banging post that I could sit back and read and be like yep I’m good at this, but it just wasn’t happening.

Being a relatively new blogger, this was kind of daunting; 1: because it had never happened to me before and 2: because I had no idea how to stop it. So missing one blog post in what was a very good schedule, threw me off a little bit.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, having writer’s block every now and then is perfectly normal. There are a few things we can do to combat it that definitely work;

  • Take a breather
  • Get out of the house
  • Meditate for 5 or 10 minutes
  • Go for a walk
  • Do something else, then come back to it

But most importantly, accept that it’s fine and don’t beat yourself up about it.
